These delightful and colourful earrings created using either Tagua or Acia nuts will become your new favourite, and look particularly stunning when worn with a neutral coloured outfit.
The jewellery is handmade in a women’s cooperative near Otavalo, Ecuador. The cooperative was formed to allow the women to stay close to home as they raise their children, rather than going out to distant towns to serve as maids. The cooperative also gives the women an opportunity to work creatively as they provide a sustainable income to their families.
Both the Tagua and Acai nuts grow naturally and sustainable in the Amazon rainforest. This kind of sustainable jungle harvesting provides local people with a sustainable income and helps prevent clear cutting the Amazon for forestry and farming purposes.
CARE NOTE: As natural dyes are used in the creation of these products, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight may slightly fade the colour over time.
Tagua Nut Earrings - Ecuador
The hooks of these earrings are made from 'Alpaca silver' which is generally quite innocuous. However, anybody who is particularly sensitive to nickel should avoid prolonged contact.
